Sip, shop, stroll! Another year, another amazing night at the Lincoln Center Wine Stroll. We were joined by about 20 wineries, including many Lodi wineries, pouring their best. And for musical entertainment, performers included The Traveller’s, Dave and The Box and Amanda Gray.

There was plenty to do and see, including within-store promotions and trunk shows, fabulous food and local wine.

Plus, this year’s proceeds benefit San Joaquin Historical Society.

Note that Markus, himself, couldn’t join us that night, as he was attending an event elsewhere.

We look forward to seeing you!

Meanwhile, please sign up to be notified about upcoming Markus events and new wines:

    THE WINES WE POURED

    THE WHITES

    2018 Markus Crealto, Mendocino
100% French Colombard – Nelson Family Vineyards

Markus has been experimenting with French Colombard from Mendocino to create a semi-sweet, low-alcohol (9.1%) wine that reminds him of some of the greatest German white wines. He arrests fermentation by cooling and adding sulphur to capture the natural harvest sweetness of the grape. And that cool fermentation preserves nice vivid aromas of white pears, golden apple, floral honeysuckle and fruit cocktail. This makes it great with appetizers, such as a plate of cheeses with salty cured meats.

If you like a wine with complexity and an exciting dynamic sweet-acid balance, this is the wine for you.

(Designed by University of the Pacific student Sheng Moua, the label ingeniously contains the postal code for Markus’s hometown in Switzerland.)

    2018 Markus Nativo, Lodi
83% Kerner, 9% Bacchus, 8% Riesling – Mokelumne Glen Vineyards Field Blend

The relatively cool Mokelumne Glen Vineyards in Lodi is the only source of the rare Kerner grape in California, and forms the core of this field blend.

Markus continues to fine-tune this unique white wine, returning to a more-rounded style of even more residual fruit-driven sweetness balanced by age-worthy acidity to remain deliciously dry-tasting. Fresh floral peaches spring forward with flinty stones that lend a cleansing lightness to the concentration of flavors.

Nativo screams for seafood or just a simple salad, though a sunset dinner on the beach with flame-grilled newly-landed fish couldn’t be more perfect. (The label ingeniously contains the postal code for Markus’s hometown in Switzerland.)

    THE REDS

    2016 Markus Blue, Lodi
70% Petit Verdot – Spenker Ranch Block 8A
20% Cabernet Sauvignon – Borra Vineyards Gill Creek Ranch
10% Malbec – Borra Vineyards Gill Creek Ranch

For Blue, Markus has his focus on Petit Verdot, with fellow Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec rounding-out the blend. The result is bright and fresh red fruits with flavors of raspberry sorbet and rose petals along with tart red plum and sour cherry. Age-able, gripping tannins lend a balancing medium body with a long-lasting finish.

Cook up some spaghetti with huge, herb-spiced meatballs, or anything with a delicious marinara sauce!

    2016 Markus Domo Carignane, Lodi
    90% Carignane – Spenker Ranch Block 4, Planted 1900
10% Petite Sirah – Borra Vineyards Gill Creek Ranch, Planted 2001

    91 points Wine Enthusiast

Our bottling from ancient vines at Lodi’s Spenker Ranch Block 4, planted way back in 1900, is red-fruit-focused: cranberries, plums, cherries and raspberries with potpourri and complexifying wet earth. Though you can see your fingers through a full glass, the wine is weighty and dry, and clean on the palate, with chalky smooth tannins.

It is said within the industry that Carignane is the wine that winemakers reach for when they want something to drink for pure enjoyment, because the grape naturally retains a good deal of acidity even when fully ripe, working well with a wide range of uncomplicated foods from grilled salmon to a roast beef au jus sandwich.

We don’t have a tasting room, so the best place to purchase these wines is right here on our website with our flat $15 shipping fee. Most of these can also be found at the same prices at the Lodi Wine & Visitor Center or Fiori’s Butcher Shoppe. Our Domo can be found at a reasonable price at the Towne House Restaurant at Wine & Roses.
