The End of Harvest Winemaker Dinner celebrated another successful growing season in the Lodi appellation and brought together Markus’s wines with the culinary expertise of renowned chef and restaurateur Rima Barkett of Café Luna and BellaVista Cucina Italiana fame, who prepared an enticing multi-course dinner of classic dishes with a twist from her native Italy.

Each course was paired with a carefully selected wine from our portfolio, but with Markus’s own twist: they were all be tasted blind. You were therefore able to focus completely on what you were tasting. At the conclusion of service, all of the wines were revealed. (Of course, it was perfectly OK to take notes, if you like!)

Hosting the festivities was Bob Highfill, wine columnist and reporter for The Record newspaper and Recordnet.com. His From the Vine columns and podcasts focus on the hard-working growers and winemakers in the Lodi American Viticultural Area, the 2015 Wine Region of the Year by Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

The End of Harvest Wine Dinner took place at the beautiful BellaVista Cucina Italiana restaurant in the historic Hotel Stockton. The evening began with a cocktail party-style reception with an array of charcuterie and cheeses and the first of Markus’s delectable wines – the perfect way to set the mood and whet the appetite.

Then, all were seated in the dining room to enjoy a composed menu expertly prepared by Rima with wines that accentuated the textures and flavors of each dish. All learned about Rima’s intriguing culinary history and Markus’s winemaking journey around the world and why Lodi is the ideal location to grow world-class grapes that go into world-class wines. There were plenty of fun surprises, as well.
