September Update

“When you taste a Markus Wine Co. wine you are experiencing one winemaker’s thought process, or a culmination of his past experiences. Like an artist’s colors, grapes contribute to characteristics, as do sense of place, or terroir. But in the end, the sum means more than the parts.” – Randy Caparoso

Randy literally gets inside Markus’s head to reveal what Markus is thinking when he puts together our blends, including a secret new label that we will be adding to our collection next year sometime.

Please read the entire piece and view all Randy’s top-notice photos (along with the shot above of, from left: 1) Gill Creek Ranch Syrah; 2) Gill Creek Ranch Petite Sirah; and 3) Silvaspoons Vineyards Touriga Nacional) at:

Meanwhile, on Saturday we finally brought in our Kerner supply from Mokelumne Glen Vineyard:

In a quintessential example of your average, everyday Lodi teamwork, Markus Bokisch of Bokisch Vineyards forklifts the bins his own crew picked for us from his neighbor, Brett Koth’s vineyard. Markus even let us borrow one of his Bokisch bins, because we were short:

We also had the good fortune to host wine writer Julie Albin, who is working on a piece for TheDrinksBusiness.com, a widely-read publication mostly for the wine trade. That’s Julie standing to the left of Brett:

And, by the way, the Kerner is tasting very nice again this year. That is especially encouraging, since the entire vineyard block was under about four feet of water for many months, leaving us doubting whether or not the vines would survive.
